The letter was written by Lt. Col. Commander, Isaac R. Sherwood to inform the public of those soldiers wounded or killed in the 111th O.V.I., a unit made of mostly Northwest Ohio men.
It was written from the 111th headquarters of the south, located in Chattanooga, on July 12, 1864.
"The following is a list of the killed and wounded in this regiment up to June 30, 1864, except those slightly wounded who are on duty. The entire number of casualties exceeds 100.
